藍鳥對上游騎兵的美聯分區系列賽第一戰，藍鳥隊展現前天剛淘汰金鶯的氣勢，在3局上在趁著遊騎兵先發Cole Hamels不穩之際，一舉攻得5分大局，暫時以5：0的大比分領先。
雖然雙方都有相當好的打者，例行賽也都展現非常好的打擊成績，但是今天比賽一開始都受制於對方投手的強勢投球，前2局都沒辦法攻得分數。
3局上，前天才驚險晉級的藍鳥率先發起攻勢，Ezequiel Carrera率先保送上壘，並在兩出局後，靠著對方投手的暴投上到二壘，下一棒的Josh Donaldson再適時敲出二壘安打，幫助藍鳥隊先馳得點。
隨後Edwin Encarnacion敲出內野安打，讓跑者攻佔一、三壘，「德州公敵」Jose Bautista再接著掃出中外野的安打，讓藍鳥再添得1分。此時遊騎兵先發Hamels逐漸找不到控球，又保送了Russell Martin，Troy Tulowitzki又把握住滿壘的機會掃出中外野的三壘安打，一棒打回3分打點，也讓比數瞬間拉開到5分差，藍鳥在該局打下大局，取得5：0的大幅領先。
